TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – A new five-year solid waste contract between the city of Toledo and Republic Services took effect Tuesday, adding financial penalties if the company fails to meet collection standards.
City leaders said the contract does not change residents’ pickup day or what can be set out at the curb. Residents can still set out trash, recycling and up to five compliant bulk items on their normal collection day.
The new contract requires Republic Services to complete at least 99% of collections each month on the scheduled day. If the company falls below that threshold, it owes the city service credits ranging from $1,000 to up to $10,000 if performance drops below 98%…
