Road Warrior: I-75 connector reopens northbound; new roundabout project to start

The Summit Street connector from I-75 at Exit 2 in Erie Township to M-125 just north of Erie, Mich., reopened to northbound traffic last week.

The connector now has one lane each way across the bridge over railroad tracks that parallel the freeway, set up on the southbound half of the structure. Traffic delays are not a problem, but wide loads are prohibited.

The Lucas County Engineer’s Office’s first roundabout project of the year is scheduled to start Monday in southern Springfield Township.

The latest new roundabout will be built at Garden and Albon roads and is scheduled to take about 45 days to complete, or until about June 6. The engineer’s office said it will be completed before any of several other roundabout projects in the county gets going, and before rehabilitation of a nearby bridge on Albon starts.

The best detour routes depend on which way traffic is approaching the area. Airport Highway and Salisbury Road parallel Garden to the north and south, respectively, while Crissey and Holloway roads are the north-south alternatives on either side of Albon.
