Three Toledo mothers spend Mother’s Day grieving sons lost to gun violence

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – On Mother’s Day, three Toledo women are united by a bond no parent should share: Each has lost a son to gun violence, and each continues to seek answers, justice or peace years after their deaths.

Abena Rowland’s son, Jo’Van Porter, an up-and-coming Toledo rapper, was shot and killed on West Central Avenue in March 2021. Five years later, no arrests have been made.
