“More cuts could come” | TPS superintendent says Ohio school district mergers are already being discussed

TOLEDO, Ohio — For months, Toledo Public Schools families have been watching closely as the district announced layoffs, school closings, program changes, and cuts to athletics – all in an effort to close a $68 million deficit.

Now, Superintendent Romules Durant, Ph.D., says the difficult decisions may not be over.

During an extended interview on WTOL 11’s Leading Edge, Durant acknowledged that TPS expects to stabilize its budget after what district leaders call “round two” of cuts and restructuring. But he stopped short of guaranteeing that additional cuts or school closures won’t happen in the future…
