Swanton Township addresses zoning issues

SWANTON TOWNSHIP – Between Arrowhead Lake Mobile Home Park, an Airport highway heavy equipment sales and service shop and an abandoned boat on Reed Road, Swanton Township Zoning Inspector Ben Mooney is busy, he told trustees during their May 12 meeting.

Arrowhead Lake owners were sent a notice of violation in December, and Mooney has been in touch with local and out-of-state management, but he has reached out again to ask for an update on progress on issues including blight, trees and vacant homes. Per the advice of the county’s assistant prosecuting attorney, John Borell, Mooney will continue to document progress.

A special zoning meeting will be set to discuss how to handle 12565 Airport Highway, where the new owners of the former Pastorek’s are operating a semi sales and service shop. Neighbors have complained about noise, lights and the use of the facility at all hours of the night, as well as increased truck traffic on Soul Road and Airport Highway. The zoning was mixed use with residential and C-2 when it was an auto sales and service shop. The current owner is running a C-4 zoned business…
