TULSA, Okla. – People across Tulsa lined up Saturday to stock up on fresh, locally harvested honey during the 10th annual Great Tulsa Honey Sale.
Shadow Mountain Honey Company opened its home for the annual event, offering raw honey, honeycomb, beeswax products, lotion bars and lip balms made from its own hives. The one-day sale has become a tradition for the family-run operation since it began hosting the event a decade ago.
From hobby to 200 hives
Head beekeeper James Deming said the business began after his wife signed him up for a beekeeping class in 2013.
“I said one time I’d like to keep bees, and my wife bought me a class at the Northeast Oklahoma Beekeepers Association,” Deming said. “I came home having purchased two beehives. The next year I had 15, the next year I had 35, and it just kind of snowballed from there.”…
