When police arrived, they said they found Benavidez, her twin 2-year-old boys, and her 4-year-old daughter in the living room of their home on Holly Court NE. They also found a vehicle in an attached garage with a makeshift apparatus connecting the exhaust pipe to the vehicle’s interior.

Benavidez reportedly told dispatchers she had attempted to kill them and herself with carbon monoxide. She and her children were transported for treatment to the Salem Hospital Emergency Department, where they were medically cleared the next day.
