Portland’s Blumenauer Bridge damaged by car, but closes only briefly

The Blumenauer Bridge, which crosses Interstate 84 in Portland’s Central Eastside, was closed during the morning commute Monday after a car drove onto the bridge, which is designed for bikes and pedestrians only.

The car damaged the bridge’s railings and fencing, the Portland Bureau of Transportation said.

PBOT spokesperson Hannah Schafer said the bridge reopened by 9:45 a.m. and that the city has ordered new fence panels to repair the damage.

Schafer said she had no details about how the car ended up on the bridge…
