The Oregon Department of Justice has closed its review of six complaints alleging misconduct by federal law-enforcement officers in Portland and Eugene, determining that none will proceed to a full criminal investigation after months of examination by state authorities.
Five complaints stemmed from confrontations outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in South Portland, where federal officers and demonstrators repeatedly clashed amid protests over federal immigration enforcement. The reports included allegations involving tear gas and excessive force. A sixth complaint concerned federal officers’ use of munitions during demonstrations outside the Eugene Federal Building in January.
An Oregon DOJ investigator examined the six complaints before determining that further criminal investigation was not warranted.
