PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — It is hard to believe that this summer is coming to an end, and I am not sure I am ready to say goodbye.
My first time visiting WAVY was in December 2025, when I got a tour of the newsroom with the amazing Bob Bennett and shadowed him while he produced his show. Afterwards, I was enamored with the station and dreamed of having an internship here.
I was in disbelief when I opened the email notifying me I got the internship. Walking in as a WAVY intern for the orientation was equally nerve-wracking and exciting – I couldn’t wait to get started.
Since day one, everyone was always willing to lend a helping hand and offer positive feedback. Throughout my time here, I’ve built up my skills and covered all sorts of news — including local response to international tragedies, ICE activity, changes in laws and initiatives aimed at making the community better.
WAVY talent has proven to be more than co-workers or mentors. They are family. Everyone here has supported me through a crazy eventful summer. From casual chats in the newsroom to having dinner at the VAB Summer Convention, I’ve gotten to have meaningful conversations with everyone here — and I’ve grown so much as a result…
