CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY)- Starting overnight as early as August 14, contractor crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) are scheduled to shift traffic on the ramp from I-64 east to I-464 north (exit 291A) onto a newly constructed lane on the right, as construction progresses on the I-64/I-464 Interchange Exit 291 Ramp Improvements Project in Chesapeake.
As construction advances toward the ramp’s final two-lane traffic configuration, the exit 291A ramp is being widened and reconfigured to accommodate two lanes of travel. During the overnight traffic shift, motorists will be shifted right from the existing lane onto the newly constructed lane at the I-65 east ramp to I-464 north.
The existing left lane will close to allow continued construction of the new flyover ramp bridge that will carry motorists from I-64 east to I-464 south, providing a direct connection to Route 168 (Chesapeake Expressway). To implement the shift, crews will close the ramp from as early as 11 p.m. to as late as 6 a.m.
The overall project is estimated to be complete as early as summer 2027.
