1 dead, 1 hurt by lightning strike on beach in Virginia

CAPE CHARLES, Va. (WAVY) — A Colorado man has died and a woman suffered minor injuries after being struck by lightning in Cape Charles Thursday afternoon, according to the town’s fire and police chiefs.

Officials said the two people were struck by lightning on the beach near Jefferson and Bay avenues around 4 p.m. The man went into cardiac arrest, and EMS were on scene performing CPR before the man was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

The storm moved in quickly and there were several people on the beach, including families with kids, officials said.
