NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The previously closed northbound on-ramp from Tidewater Drive to I-64 west is scheduled to open as early as overnight on Sept. 3, announced the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
On-ramp closure from Tidewater Dr. to I-64 west begins
The ramp has been closed since Feb. 2025. As this phase of construction wraps up, crews will continue to work on the Hampton Roads Express Lanes (HREL) Norfolk Segment.
This work was part of the first phase of the HREL Norfolk Segment project, which started in summer 2023 and includes converting the inside shoulder of I-64 into a high-occupancy tolled, part-time shoulder Express Lane, as well as widening several bridges on I-64.
Ultimately, this project will create a continuous 45-mile high-occupancy toll Express Lane on I-64. The goal is to decrease congestion and provide better travel options as traffic demands continue to increase in Hampton Roads…
