‘Women Build Weeks’ underway in Norfolk, helping grandmother achieve home ownership

NORFOLK, Va. — Women Build Weeks are underway in Norfolk as volunteers work together to help construct a home for a local family in the city’s Berkley neighborhood.

Habitat for Humanity of South Hampton Roads is hosting the annual event from April 20 through May 1, bringing together women from across the region to help build a home for future homeowner Leola Wiggins.

Wiggins, a mother of three and grandmother raising one of her grandchildren, said she faced housing uncertainty after learning her lease would not be renewed when the homeowner planned to move back in.
