Blog: The rain cometh

It’s happening. It’s really happening. We have rain. (Actual rain). Folks were probably a bit in shock this morning as it hasn’t rained during the morning commute in months. We had one small wave of rain last night. It started around 2am.

Then the rain really picked up during most of the morning commute.

A slow-moving cold front was sinking to the south through the region. It was encountering a very humid air mass.

Up to the point of this writing we had picked up a quarter to three-quarters of an inch of rainfall, and it was still coming down.

Rain showers are expected to be on and off through at least midday. Then rain will taper off going into the afternoon hours.

The rain should wrap up by the evening, but a little drizzle may continue for a bit longer. Looking at the latest… I think we are still aiming for about a half inch of rainfall up to an inch for most of the region.

Keep in mind some of those models (shown above) initiated past the point of our earlier rainfall. Overall, some spots could see more than an inch, but I think that will be less common than some of the models have shown lately. Either way this is a really good soaking rain that should help all our plants, flowers, grass, and wildlife. It will also wash out the pollen. Yes!!!

We’ll have a steady north breeze today at 10-15mph. Temps will fall from the 60s to the 50s this morning. They will stay there for the rest of the day.

Tonight we’ll have clearing skies. There may be a little fog late. Low temps will be in the low 50s with a few 40s inland…
