WASHINGTON (7News) — A major leadership change is underway inside D.C. Public Schools as Chancellor Lewis Ferebee prepares to step down at the end of the school year, setting off questions about the future direction of the district’s education system.
Ferebee, who has led DCPS since 2018, is the longest-serving chancellor in the district’s history. During his tenure, the school system navigated the COVID-19 pandemic, widespread learning loss, and a multi-year push to improve academic performance.
He is expected to leave the role to lead a national education nonprofit, EdReports, according to district officials.
