WASHINGTON (7News) — Wednesday is shaping up to be the most active weather day of the week as a cold front pushes south through the Mid-Atlantic.
The First Alert Weather Team is on a WEATHER ALERT as showers and thunderstorms become more widespread during the afternoon and evening, with the potential for a few storms to become severe. The Storm Prediction Center has placed much of the area under a ‘slight risk’ for severe thunderstorms, a level two on a five-point scale, but one that still warrants attention.
Damaging wind gusts appear to be the primary concern during the late afternoon and early evening hours, as storms moving out of the Ohio Valley shift east and southeast through the day. Growing instability, lingering deep tropical moisture and stronger winds aloft may also allow storms to organize into clusters capable of producing heavy rain and isolated flooding, particularly in urban areas.
