La Loca To Turn Logan Circle Corner Into Mexican Pizza Hot Spot

La Loca is staking its claim on a busy Logan Circle and Shaw corner, with fresh signage now up at 1018 Rhode Island Ave NW, the former home of The Roasted Boon. The new branding promises Mexican-style pizza, burritos, tacos and a bar. For now, the storefront still just says “Coming soon,” with no opening date posted, but neighbors are already stopping to snap photos.

Those photos quickly made their way to local blog PoPville, which ran the images on Friday and described the sign as advertising “Mexican Style Pizza, Burritos, Tacos & Bar.” The post also noted that The Roasted Boon closed in May 2025 and identified the now-quiet storefront as the future home of La Loca.

License records show a transfer is underway

City records suggest this is more than just a new sign job. An order from the Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration shows that an applicant filed a license transfer on Jan. 2, 2025, and that the Board approved a Temporary Operator’s Retail Permit on Jan. 29, 2025 so the business can operate while the transfer is pending.

The Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration license roster lists Solis Food Group 3 LLC doing business as “Cafeteria & Taqueria La Loca” at 1018 Rhode Island Ave NW under license number ABRA-131150.

The corner’s recent history

The 1018 Rhode Island Avenue address most recently housed coffee shop The Roasted Boon, which local listings now show as closed. The change is one more chapter in the steady turnover along the Logan Circle and Shaw corridors, where new food and drink concepts routinely slide into vacated spaces…
