2 killed, 3 hurt in violent weekend across DC as dangerous-weapon assaults rise

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Five people were shot, two fatally, in four shootings across the District during a 24-hour period over the weekend, including a teenage boy killed in Columbia Heights and a man wounded near Logan Circle.

The violence came as homicides remain sharply lower across Washington, D.C. compared to last year, even as assaults involving guns, knives and other dangerous weapons have increased.

Teenage boy killed in Columbia Heights shooting, DC police investigating

The first fatal shooting was reported around 9:45 p.m. Saturday near Oxon Run Park. D.C. police officers found 24-year-old Dayquan Miller, of Southeast D.C., suffering from a gunshot wound near the Wheeler Terrace Apartments on Valley Avenue. He died at the scene.

Around 1:45 a.m. Saturday, police were called to the 1500 block of Alabama Avenue in Southeast. Officers found a man and woman who had been shot and another woman who had been assaulted.

The two shooting victims were taken to a hospital. The third victim declined medical treatment. Police said they were searching for a woman known to the victims, but it remained unclear how they knew her…
