WASHINGTON — To kick off the DC 250 celebration, District residents are being invited to the annual Emancipation Day celebration. The event includes Day of Play at RFK, the DC 250 Kids Ball, and the annual parade, festival, and concert.
April 16 marks Emancipation Day in DC, a day commemorating when President Lincoln freed more than 3,100 ensalved people in the District in 1862. DC was the fire place in the nation where emancipation became law.
