Maryland man sentenced after cocaine trafficking bust

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A 47-year-old man was sentenced after participating in a large-scale cocaine trafficking conspiracy, funneling drugs from New York into Washington, D.C. and the surrounding areas.

Marcus Devonta Williams, of Brookeville, Maryland, was the Washington, D.C.-area distributor.

Beginning in the summer of 2024, the FBI began investigating the large-scale drug ring that was operating along the Northeast coast, including D.C. and Maryland, all the way to New York, according to court records. As the point-person for the D.C. operation, Williams was tasked with transporting the drugs from New York from co-defendant Daryl Smith-Winfree and giving it to re-sellers and individual buyers throughout the region.

Between February and April 2025, law enforcement made four controlled purchases from Williams. He was also seen on surveillance meeting with Smith-Winfree, where they exchanged a brown bag in a parking lot.
