Rare leatherback dubbed ‘Worm’ spotted nesting in daylight on Palm Beach County beach

JUNO BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A rare and exciting phenomenon was observed this past weekend on one of Palm Beach County’s beaches: a leatherback sea turtle during nesting hours.

Loggerhead Marinelife Center said the sighting is unusual, as leatherback sea turtles typically nest at night. The turtle, known as “Worm,” was previously documented by Florida Leatherbacks Inc on March 4. The center says this marks the first time it has encountered this particular sea turtle.

Worm is considered a small leatherback and is believed to weigh around 600 pounds…
