Freeman Signature 56 Boat Review

There was a palpable buzz leading into the Palm Beach International Boat Show, much of it centered on the debut of the Freeman Signature 56. As luck would have it, an opportunity to jump aboard came just after the show at Sailfish Marina, where we caught up with the Freeman team for a proper look—and a proper ride.

At 56 feet with a commanding 16-foot-6-inch beam, the boat carries the stature of a sport-fisher while retaining the unmistakable DNA of a center-console. Stepping aboard, two rows of forward-facing helm seating are complemented by an aft-facing mezzanine seat with air-conditioned backrests. Twin refrigerated drink boxes are neatly integrated into the mezzanine step, while twin 60-gallon livewells, expansive in-deck fish boxes with chiller plates, and an ice chipper to port underline its fishability. Beneath the deck, storage feels nearly endless.

Functionality extends throughout. Large tackle centers flank the mezzanine, while an overhead aft-facing display keeps key data visible from the cockpit. Gemlux outriggers crown the hardtop, paired with a centrally positioned rocket launcher. Dual dive doors lead to a swim platform with an integrated ladder, adding versatility offshore.

At the helm, the execution is clean and intuitive. A sweeping curved-glass windshield frames twin large-format displays and a bank of push-button switches, all within easy reach. Joystick controls and an MFD remote allow for seamless operation while seated, while a second full-control helm station rises from the Palm Beach tower above. Forward, the bow delivers on fishability, with wide walk-around space and additional storage throughout. A drum-style windlass tucks neatly into a forward hatch, complemented by a molded seat and a sun pad.

Where the Signature 56 separates itself is below deck. For a center-console catamaran, the inclusion of a true cabin is a defining feature. In the starboard hull, two single bunks are arranged fore and aft, while forward, behind a locking door, a queen berth sits athwartships with ample storage. Lift the steps, and a pristine machinery space reveals a generator, a Seakeeper 6 and an ElectroSea system…
