WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — One person is dead after a crash north of Derby on Wednesday.
It happened shortly before 2 p.m. near 47th Street South and Rock Road.
According to the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, a box truck and a car were traveling in opposite directions when one of the vehicles crossed the center line, resulting in a head-on collision.

The driver of the car — a roughly 30-year-old male — was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the box truck, a man in his mid-50s, was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were serious but not life-threatening, the sheriff’s office said.
“As far as accidents go, this one’s tragic,” Lt. Steve Olsen said. “It’s not a very good scene, and so it’s going to take us some time on this one. We’re really going to have to work through this to figure out what happened.”
