Back to daily storm chances, some could be severe

We have a stretch of active weather days ahead. There is a risk for isolated strong to severe storms to the west later today.

Fire danger will also be high in this part of the area today. Portions of the Oklahoma Panhandle have already had a Fire Weather Watch get issued for Thursday.

Today’s storm chance to the west will be slim. Any storms that develop during the afternoon should not last too long past sundown.

High temperatures today will be warm again. Some spots to the west will get close to 90.

Even though Thursday will be another warm day, Northwest Kansas and Southwest Nebraska will begin to notice a change as a cold front moves in.

The cold front will also spark some storms during the afternoon between Central and Eastern Kansas.

This is where we will have our next severe risk. All forms of severe weather will be possible.

Not much of this stormy activity will impact the western half of the area. Therefore, grassfire concerns will continue to the west.

Storms around and east of the turnpike will need to be monitored through the evening. Any storms that last into the overnight will only impact a select few to the southeast.

This is where some stormy activity could flare back up Friday, closer to Chautauqua County. However, most of us will be dry.

We will be back to being weather aware over the weekend. If you have plans to be outdoors, be aware of your surroundings and have a safe, sturdy shelter nearby that you are able to get to.

While some showers and storms will be possible through the day Saturday, the best chance will be late in the afternoon and during the evening.

We will wrap up the weekend with another chance for strong to severe storms.

Next week, any breaks from storm chances will be brief as our overall pattern continues to look active.
