A Triple Construction Hit Is Reshaping Southwest Wichita

Three West Street projects listed in the city’s current construction bulletin are reshaping a major southwest Wichita corridor—and the longest-running disruption keeps northbound-only restrictions in place through at least early next year.

The most consequential segment runs from MacArthur to I-235, where West Street is reduced to northbound traffic only. That restriction stays in place for the duration of the project, according to the city’s construction bulletin.

Drivers needing to travel that stretch must detour using MacArthur, Meridian, and I-235, with an estimated completion of first quarter 2027.

What’s being built and where

Pearson Construction LLC is handling both northern segments. Between 47th Street South and MacArthur, West Street is being widened from two lanes to three, adding a center turn lane, a 10-foot multi-use path, and a 6-foot sidewalk.
