NEWTON, Kan. (KWCH) – While areas that were under the gun with tornado warnings were largely spared, Monday night’s storms brought damaging winds, large hail and heavy rain that impacted several areas across portions of southwestern, south-central, central and eastern Kansas.
There were several tornadoes reported in far northeast Kansas and northwest Missouri, with reports of tornado debris in Ray County, Missouri.
In the broad KWCH viewing area, there are damage reports from powerful winds, including tree damage in Newton and North Newton, destruction of an 80-year-old barn south of Hutchinson, in Abbyville, and some significant structural damage, including a collapsed outbuilding on a rural property southwest of Conway Springs.
Notable storm reports from Monday night included egg-sized hail in Lincoln and Haviland, golf-ball-sized hail in Kinsley, and recorded 70 mph wind gusts in Hutchinson, Garden Plain and Newton…
