ANDOVER, Kan. (KSNW) — For one of the final times this school year, the Andover District Bakery’s students are preparing to send out dozens of cookies to customers.
This program began nearly 20 years ago to provide special education students with some vocational skills in the kitchen that they can use once they graduate from Andover High School.
“We call it a bakery, but we’re not a bakery trying to make money and make profit; we’re trying to teach these students life skills and the vocational skills that come with it,” Principal Brent Riedy said. “So definitely a fine balance. They do a great job, and it’s a good cookie. It’s pretty awesome to see the busyness of the bakery.”
