Developers take legal action after Brunswick Co. rejects housing development project

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – Brunswick County is facing a lawsuit after county leaders denied a proposed 1,340-home planned development known as Green Hill.

HIC Land LLC and CLD Engineering PLLC filed suit May 6 in response to the county’s denial of the 784.59-acre project in April. The development is proposed for land zoned Rural Residential, with a revised plan calling for 1,340 single-family homes — about 1.71 units per acre. The plaintiffs contend that density is below the maximum allowed under the county’s Unified Development Ordinance.

In the complaint, the plaintiffs argue the county wrongfully denied the project despite county staff finding the application complete and recommending approval. The lawsuit says the project met or exceeded ordinance requirements and was supported by technical studies, including a traffic impact analysis, a drainage assessment and reports on threatened and endangered species, as well as cultural and historical resources…
