SHREWSBURY — Shrewsbury officials leaped into action after a medical emergency occurred before the start of the town’s Memorial Day Parade on May 25. It served as a reminder that, for first-responders, duty can call at any moment.
At about 9:30 a.m., state representative Hannah Kane was finishing her Memorial Day remarks outside Town Hall when everyone’s attention was drawn away. A parade participant had suffered a medical emergency.
Within seconds, officials listening to Kane’s remarks leaped into action. Shrewsbury Chief of Police Kevin Anderson and Shrewsbury Fire Chief Seth Colby were the first two responders, followed by Shrewsbury Police Department Lieutenant Nick Perna. Several members of the Honor Guard left their post to help, and many could be spotted running to the scene with medical equipment…
