Shell from Massachusetts to be featured in new Smithsonian exhibition

WASHINGTON (WWLP) – The Massachusetts state shell will be among hundreds of artifacts and specimens featured in a new Smithsonian exhibition opening this week as part of the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary commemoration.

The Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History will debut “From These Lands: Sharing Our Natural and Cultural Heritage” on Thursday, June 18.

The 5,000-square-foot exhibition will showcase more than 600 specimens and cultural objects from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and five U.S. territories.

Among the items representing Massachusetts is the New England Neptune, the state’s official shell. The exhibition will remain on display through December 2029…
