WORCESTER – The Worcester Youth Speak Honestly (WYSH) Project takes over the Brickbox Theatre, at 20 Franklin St., for three shows starting Friday, July 10. The WYSH Project is a yearlong program that culminates in the creation of this original piece of theatre.
The program intends to drive the youth participants to use this platform to speak their truths. Creating, rehearsing, and performing this original work is 13 weeks of the project.
Participating youth this year have adopted classic TV genres with issues they see impacting Worcester youth:
- A sitcom set in a crumbling Worcester high school;
- A family drama following a girl who must choose between her dream of becoming an artist and the need to provide for her working-class family;
- A horror following a string of disappearances among the most vulnerable populations in Worcester.
The production will include satirical breaking news segments, parody infomercials, and even an over-the-top telenovela set at a high school prom…
