WESTBOROUGH – Prompted by an accident in Downtown Westborough, the Select Board on July 21 considered a plan that would temporarily remove a half-dozen parking spots around the rotary area in the name of safety. The board ultimately voted to hold off instituting the plan for the time being.
Several driveways in Downtown Westborough are potentially dangerous, Town Manager Kristi Williams said, noting that parking spaces can obfuscate drivers’ views as they pull onto the main road. To counteract this, Williams proposed temporarily eliminating spaces within 5 feet of a driveway. The Police Department and Department of Public Works could collaborate going forward to determine which spaces are safe.
A spot near the Forbes Building could get the axe, along with a spot near the driveway of Saint Luke’s, two on South Street near Sake Hana and TJ Farms, and three further down South Street near the Central House Tavern. Another few spaces on Milk Street, near the gas station, could be affected…
