It’s hard to imagine a world in which “Songs In The Key Of Life” does not exist, but there was somehow a time before Stevie Wonder’s iconic album, released 50 years ago this autumn, reached the ears of the universe.
Wonder’s fans got to hear it Sept. 28, 1976, when it first hit record stores. But unbeknownst to many, just a week earlier Wonder had hosted an early-listening party just 14 miles away from Worcester at Long View Farm in North Brookfield.
Addressing dozens of music reporters from major publications, Wonder said the record’s 26 tracks, including classics “I Wish,” “Sir Duke,” “Isn’t She Lovely” and “As,” came from “a hoping for all people to look at the problems we experience in this life as a form of growth” and “a positive tomorrow for all people.”…
