Sturbridge police save person from jumping from bridge

STURBRIDGE, Mass. (WWLP) – Officers and a dispatcher were able to safely secure a person who had expressed intent to jump from a Sturbridge bridge on Thursday.

No danger confirmed after alleged firearm threat by Tantasqua student

At approximately 11:32 p.m., dispatch received a call from a person expressing intent to jump from a bridge into the river. Through a calm, professional phone call, the dispatcher determined the individual’s location and alerted officers.

When officers arrived, they located the person on the outside of a guardrail on the bridge. The officers were able to safely secure the individual and bring them back over the guardrail.

The person was taken to a local hospital for an evaluation. A police clinician will follow up with the individual to provide support and connect them with additional resources…
