BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WALA) – The Alabama Department of Mental Health has moved to decertify The ARC of Baldwin County, citing repeated safety concerns, failures in care and compliance issues involving Medicaid waiver participants.
The agency said the decision followed a months-long review that found deficiencies in incident reporting, supervision, staff training, medical care and other areas. Families gathered Wednesday for a public meeting with state representatives and support coordinators to learn what services are available for their loved ones as The ARC’s programs shut down.
Families forced to find new housing on short notice
Among those affected is Baldwin County Judge William Scully, whose 40-year-old daughter, Elizabeth, has an intellectual disability and had been under the care of The Arc for nearly two decades. Elizabeth and her roommate were forced to move from their apartment on short notice this week.
