City of Rockford outreach teams check on homeless residents as extreme heat grips region

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — As extreme heat and wildfire smoke continues to affect northern Illinois, the city is expanding efforts to protect some of the community’s most vulnerable residents.

Rockford’s Health and Human Services Department has been conducting outreach throughout the community, checking on people experiencing homelessness, distributing cold water and providing information about local cooling centers.
