This one is for those with an appetite. The region has its first Cookout after the popular North Carolina-based fast food chain opened over the weekend at 5501 E Fowler Ave. near the USF campus.
The popular chain is known for its mega-sized platters of southern food, featuring burgers, barbecue, quesadillas, cajun fries, various forms of chicken, and dozens of varieties of “fancy milkshakes.” The variety is matched by its affordability, making it a favorite across college towns in the south.
Those of us who were fortunate enough to go to a school with a Cookout in town know the joy that Cookout will bring to USF students. While it’s ostensibly open for lunch and dinner, it’s most popular as a late night spot. Where else at 2 am can you get a chicken tender tray with a quesadilla and a corn dog as your sides? Add in an Oreo milkshake and it won’t just be that last drink of the night that has your stomach feeling rough in the morning.
The weekend opening of Cookout was announced, but if owners hoped they could sneak in a soft opening before the crowds came, they were mistaken.
