EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — Evansville fire investigators will be taking on a new set of responsibilities.
They will now be serving not only as fire fighters but as sworn law enforcement officers in the city. Officials say this is all in an effort to tackle their own arson investigations.
In the past, once fire investigators determined criminal intent, a case would then be passed on to the Evansville Police Department. Now once investigators complete the police academy, they will be able to canvass areas, interview neighbors and witnesses and make their own arrests…
