Akron raises $25K in two days for International Institute after federal funding loss

The community in Akron is rallying behind an immigrant and refugee services organization that announced it lost its federal funding earlier this week.

The International Institute of Akron has received more than $25,000 in donations over the past two days, said Executive Director Madhu Sharma.

“It’s been quite an overwhelming few days,” Sharma said. “We know we have a deep connection to the community, and our organization wouldn’t exist without them, and we wanted to reach out to them for help and support.”…
