On a plastic fold-out table on the second floor of the Lucas County Corrections Center sits a scaled-down model of the jail made entirely out of cardboard.
It has a front lawn, bushes, a wheelchair-accessible ramp, and, off to the side, a police cruiser.
The stairs are adorned with a red ribbon — inmates held their very own ribbon-cutting ceremony when they completed the project. Cutouts of the corrections officers who helped build the cardboard jail are glued to the front, one stationed at every door.
