3 detained at ICE check-ins at Cedar Rapids DHS office, advocacy group says

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Advocacy group Escucha Mi Voz told KCRG that three people were detained at their immigration check-ins at the Cedar Rapids Department of Homeland Security office Tuesday morning.

One of those people was Adela Margarita Angel Melendez, an immigrant from El Salvador living in West Liberty. According to Escucha Mi Voz, she had been waiting seven years for the office to hear her residency petition filed by her sister, who is a U.S. citizen.

The group was outside the office to support immigrants at their regular meetings with the department and said the three were detained after the crowd left…
