Last week, a San Antonio university rolled out a new sun-inspired logo, but it had locals and alumni covering their eyes, and not because it was too bright. Now, the school says it’s holding off on the rebrand — here’s why.
Trinity University unveiled the spiky sun logo last week, part of its rebrand in collaboration with Massachusetts-based Mackey Strategies and Maryland-based E&A Collaborative. Replacing the Murchison bell tower logo, a spokesperson had told MySA the sun was workshopped alongside 300 “stakeholders, including alumni, professors and professionals, faculty and staff and students.” It was supposed to represent knowledge, enlightenment, adventure and a new day for the school.
However, the vast majority of the reaction was pretty negative, with social media commenters comparing it to AI agent Claude, Open AI and La Quinta Inn logos. Other commenters reached for bathroom humor that, well, doesn’t bear repeating…
