5 displaced after discarded lit cigarette starts fire at apartment building in New Orleans East

A two-alarm fire broke out at a New Orleans East apartment building overnight Thursday, displacing five residents, according to the New Orleans Fire Department.

At around 12:30 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to a two-story apartment building at the 4700 block of Lonely Oak Drive in Plum Orchard. The four-unit building had heavy flames coming from the back on the second floor.

All residents had escaped safely by the time firefighters arrived and no one was injured…
