Joshua Rondeno, the former superintendent of police at New Orleans’ flood protection authority, who was fired in June, sued the agency last week alleging his termination was in violation of an employment contract that Rondeno drafted himself.
The lawsuit, filed on July 28 in the Civil District Court for the Parish of Orleans, centers on a series of changes to Rondeno’s employment contract that Rondeno claims the board never approved. The lawsuit asks the court to declare the termination invalid and seeks Rondeno’s reinstatement, as well as back and future pay, lost retirement benefits, and damages for reputational harm and emotional distress, plus attorney’s fees under Louisiana’s whistleblower law.
The board did not publicly vote on any version of his employment contract, and the board president told lawmakers that Rondeno drafted one version himself…
