CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The Cedar Rapids Community School District says its Safe & Secure Learning Initiative is producing measurable results, with student criminal charges dropping nearly 77% since the program launched in Fall 2023.
According to the district’s 2025-2026 School Resource Officer Data Report, student criminal charges fell from 69 in the 2023-2024 school year to 16 in 2025-2026 – a 76.81% decrease. Compared with last school year, charges declined another 54.29%.
District officials attribute the improvements to investments in prevention, early intervention and collaboration among school administrators, School Resource Officers, counselors, social workers, families, and community partners.
