CHICAGO — In what electrical power grid operators might characterize as a “rolling blackout,” Amtrak has canceled or will cancel a series of Midwest Corridor round trips this week.
Problems surfaced when Chicago-Quincy Illinois Zephyr round trips were canceled Saturday, Aug. 1, through Monday morning, Aug. 3, after Friday evening train No. 383 suffered a series of “mechanical assessments” at La Grange and Kewanee, Ill., leading to a 2½-hour-late arrival into Quincy.
The disabled trainset returned to Chicago without passengers for Monday afternoon’s departure of No. 383, but after that train’s arrival in Quincy, Tuesday morning’s No. 380 never departed. Responding to Trains inquiries, Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari said, “Train 380 was canceled and no substitute transportation was available.”…
