The San Francisco Bay Area is preparing for the return of AIA SWADES 2026 on Saturday, August 15. AIA SWADES 2026 will commemorate the US’s 250th and India’s 80th Independence Day with a spectacular day of culture, unity, and celebration in the heart of Downtown San Jose at Plaza de Cesar Chavez. The day includes entertainment, cuisine, music, art, and heritage, offering fun experiences for every family member.
Bollywood and Community Dignitaries
The celebration will feature Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu as the Honorable Guest and Grand Marshal. Pannu will lead key proceedings throughout the day, engaging with attendees and fans from across the Indian American diaspora.
Local and international leadership will also be represented at the event. According to the press release, San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan and the Consul General of India in San Francisco, Dr. Srikar Reddy, will attend as Chief Guests. Their presence highlights the ongoing bilateral ties between India and the United States while recognizing the civic, economic, and cultural contributions of Silicon Valley’s South Asian population.
Multinational Parade and Day-and-Night Mela
Hosted in the heart of San Jose, the free event offers family-friendly programming throughout the afternoon and evening. The festival’s signature attraction, the Multinational Parade, is scheduled from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Alongside the parade, the Day & Night Mela will run from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., offering:
- A Historic Flag Walk and Tiranga Walk commemorating India’s path to 80 years of independence.
- A Food Festival showcasing traditional Indian cuisines.
- A shopping marketplace featuring vendors, attire, and handicrafts.
- Live cultural stage performances and a fashion show.
- An interactive Kids Zone with activities for youth.
