A Summerfield woman was arrested for stealing from Walmart during a blitz targeting retail theft.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office took part in a National Retail Blitz operation this week, according to an arrest report from the MCSO. It was during this operation that detectives discovered 59-year-old Kathleen Rae Smith stole from Walmart, located at 17961 S U.S. Hwy. 441, Summerfield, on Wednesday.
Surveillance footage determined she passed all points of sale with $8.90 in stolen merchandise. Smith later advised that she was not thinking when she took a bag of ice from the store after walking away from the register, the report said.
A subsequent search of her person yielded a clear container of methamphetamine. A check of her criminal history found one prior theft conviction on March 27, 2017, in Sumter County, the report said…
