2 stranded rafters rescued from Lehigh River island in Allentown

A pair of rafters became stranded Friday on a Lehigh River island during severe weather and had to be rescued, a fire official said.

Allentown Fire Department Captain of Public Affairs Jonathan Hammel said emergency responders were called shortly after 4:30 p.m. to the river in the area of Canal Park.

Water levels rose quickly, leaving the rafters clinging to a rock on the island, WFMZ-69 News reported…
